What is SELA Fellowship

The Sustainable Education and Leadership for Africa  (SELA) Fellowship is a program under the African Youth Mentorship Project, aimed at building emerging African sustainability leaders who are passionate about leading various grassroots initiatives in their local communities. The fellowship equips them with the skills they need to start addressing the challenges faced by Africans. The fellowship also supports fellows in carrying out outreach projects in their communities.

The fellowship equips them with the skills they need to start or continue to build their own social enterprises and non-governmental organizations that are addressing the challenges faced by Africans.

Sustainable Education and Leadership for Africa (SELA) Fellowship

SELA Fellowship will bring together young leaders across Africa to learn, network, collaborate, and drive sustainable change. Fellows will:

  • Engage in a comprehensive curriculum that will enhance their leadership skills and knowledge in sustainability.
  • Receive mentorship and guidance from experts in sustainable development.
  • Implement, start and be empowered to continue their impact project to form a social enterprise or NGO
  • Gain practical skills in project management and leadership.
  • Join a vibrant network of changemakers committed to sustainability.
  • Collaborate with peers and gain insights into implementing sustainable initiatives.
  • Earn a certificate upon successful completion of the fellowship.

Applicants must:

  • Be between 18 and 35 years old by December 2025.
  • Demonstrate a clear commitment to social and environmental change.
  • Have proficiency in English.
  • Show leadership potential in sustainable development.
  • Reside in any African country.

Fellows must:

  • Fully participate in virtual sessions, assignments, and outreach projects.
  • Dedicate 8-10 hours weekly for three months.
  • Maintain regular communication with program organizers and peers.
  • Participate in surveys and provide feedback during and post-program.

The fellowship will be conducted virtually. Fellows need access to a computer or mobile device
with internet connectivity.

  • April 1st – April 25th: Cohort 3 Call for Applications
  • April 18th: Info session
  • May 2nd: Cohort 3 Application Feedback
  • May 10th Cohort 3 Fellowship begins

Over the course of the fellowship, participants will:

  • Enhance critical thinking and leadership skills.
  • Develop expertise in climate advocacy, community activism, and project management.
  • Gain practical experience in executing impactful community projects.
  • Build a robust network of like-minded changemakers across Africa.
  • Receive mentorship and career support from industry leaders.
  • Earn a certificate of completion and access internship opportunities.

  • Willingness to work collaboratively and commit time to the program.
  • Interest in creative storytelling and advocacy strategies.
